I have always loved art. I was inspired by my Mom, Dad & by my Grandfather Hrbal who also painted. He sent me home one summer with paint in one hand & brushes the in the other. When I was 18, I took a couple of drawing classes at San Bernardino Jr. College in California and boy was I impressed. It was like a whole new world was out there. I just had to get my hands on it! I decided some time later I needed to really devote some time and effort into developing my art. The past 3 yrs I have been pursuing my talent on a regular basis. I joined 3 art societies and enjoyed participating in shows.
In 2006 I received 3rd. place with http://www.jaxvisualarts.com , in 2007 I received an honorable mention with http://www.staaa.org , also in 2007 I received a merit award with the http://www.jacksonvillewatercolorsociety.org . In 2008 I received an honorable mention with http://www.jacksonvillewatercolorsociety.org. This year I received 2nd place with http://www.jaxvisualarts.com and Best in show with Tipton, Indiana art festival.
As an artist I enjoy exploring various techniques and media. Watercolor and acrylic have similar properties, which, when used on paper, mix and move in myriad ways with stunning affect. Oil paint is an old favorite. I usually use it for most of my portrait work.
Regardless of the medium, I try to let a painting grow and evolve as I develop it. I feel like it is speaking to me, telling me what it needs. That way, the finished work takes on a personality of its own.
While I thoroughly enjoy painting for its own sake, I truly love creating paintings for others. The process makes me feel alive. I may use photographs for reference, but I add my own painterly feel to the composition. It is the only way I know how to put my own hand print on a subject. Whether it is a still life, a landscape or portrait, I enjoy putting a little of myself into the painting. I feel like God gave me the talent to do that, and now it is up to me to do something with it! Thank you for giving me the chance to share with you.
My work can always be viewed at Jami's Barber Shop & Art Studio, 5842 Atlantic Blvd, JAX, Fl, where I work full time to keep from becoming a starving artist.
If interested in a portrait you can send me a photo of your loved ones, cherished pet or that once-in-a-lifetime photo you took on vacation. I promise I will turn it into a wonderful painting you will enjoy for a lifetime! Don't let that special memory fade away; send me that photo today!
